Preparing for my Husbands Deployment

61

By J.R. Frank

Hmmm...one day at a time, right?

I'm starting to accept this.  Yup, me.  I went to a Yellow Ribbon Event this week that my husband basically had to DRAG me to.  I really wasn't up for it.  After all I was, and may be, still angry over the whole thing.  I do have to say that I found the whole experience quite fulfilling. What helped me the most was that the entire place was filled full of people who were dealing with the same things that I am. There were also many people there that are sources for families while their soldier is away.

Hallelujah!  I am not alone!

What I learned;  Yes, this is and will be hard.  Everyone acknowledges this.  However, there are lists of people willing to help.  Hearing that is what I needed.  In the past I kept thinking, "What if?"  Now I know what to do if something does come up.

There are groups.  (We all know how I feel about groups)  I did learn that it is important to be a part of these groups because maybe I'll go one time and connect with someone.  That way I'll maybe make a friend.  Maybe there is another wife with small children who is as lost as I am.

Why we are there:  I learned why we are there.  No, I'm no expert.  I do know that we need to get rid of the Taliban because it is flourishing in Afghanistan so future attacks won't happen.

Communication.  I now know  when my husband calls I am not expected to have exciting news.  I'm expected to talk about my day and continue my life as best as I can while he is gone.  I learned NEVER to hang up the phone during an argument.  It is important to at least agree to disagree and make sure each person knows they are loved before the phone call is over.

I was given a bit of peace.  I am hoping to enjoy these last few weeks before he leaves.  Make more memories.

I'm interested to talk to others going through this.  If this is you, shoot me a message.
